Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.
While it’s what’s on the inside that trulycounts, it never hurts to have smart, spiffy attire that also lets your affable personality shine — no matter your age. And, instead of relying solely on what’s trending now, it’s important to build your wardrobe on a solid foundation of well-curated pieces. After all, the right dress can change your night by giving you an extra dose of confidence, a perfect pair of shoes can keep you going when you may have fallen behind, and a well-tailored shirt can actually save you money in the long run by keeping you from buying four other replacement tops.

Many years ago, somebody or other — some annoying self-appointed style guru — came up with the concept of age-appropriate dressing. The basic idea is as follows: The older you get, the more conservatively you should dress. Color and flamboyance are for young people. Restraint, propriety and formality are for elders. For some reason it was decided that once women hit 50, they should ditch that metallic snakeskin disco purse and start dressing like depressed librarians. Do you agree?
We believe that the older you get, the more bold and playful you should become in your dress. Do not allow yourself to be inhibited by someone else’s notions of good taste and bad taste. You have paid your dues. You have earned the right to sassy it up!
We are not suggesting that we all start dressing like circus performers, burlesque queens or pole-dancing hooch’s. We are talking about injecting your style with fun and creativity, and — this is the really important part — We are talking about expressing yourself. We are living in a fashion-obsessed universe. You can basically buy any item at any price, in any size, at any time of the day or night.
Getting older means no more wearing dresses above the knee or shopping the latest trends, right? Not so! The rules of age-appropriate dressing have changed, and while we’re not encouraging 60-somethings to wear neon minis, you can still look fun, modern and stylish well into your golden years.

20s Something Chic
There’s something that happens in your 20s: whether you want to or not, whether you’re even aware of it—you grow up. Everything about your worldview becomes a bit more mature, and this means your style evolves along with it.
The 20s is a highly formative age for most women. You may be in University when you hit 20 and by 29 be anywhere from still hacking away at a Degree to chasing toddlers around. This is the period in life—while you’re still learning who you are—to experiment with and discover your personal style. A preppy-sexy look is a staple of the early 20s. This is also your time to shine in a mini-dress or skinny jeans, but if you’re a little more conservative, you can still be just as fashion-forward yet more covered up in a retro look.

Flirty 30s
Women in their 30s are often living very similar lives to those of their 20s contemporaries, but this is the decade to infuse touches of maturity and sophistication into your look. You also might be less inclined to suffer for fashion, so while women of every age look smashing in stilettos, you’re well within your rights to put a two-inch cap on heel height. You don’t have to completely swear off the hottest trends now that you’re all grown up.
40s Fashionista
Being in your 40s doesn’t mean you need to trade in your little black dress for a matronly tracksuit. Women in their 40s nowadays are keeping it youthful in the latest denim styles, which pair with anything from a favorite tee to a slouchy sweater. Both styles are age-appropriate yet fashionable, but if you feel a little too exposed in that strapless sheath or cami, cardigans are a 40s woman’s best friend. You still have your figure show it off with pencil skirts. Why not a lose fitting dress? On the knew or below.
Polished 50s
In your 50s, you can afford to invest in quality over quantity. Update your tried-and-true basics for perfectly tailored pieces you’ll cherish. You know what works for you at this age and what doesn’t.With age comes the authority to wear polished clothes that younger women often can’t pull off, like pencil skirts and embellished button-down shirts. At the same time, don’t be afraid to show off the parts of your body of which you’re most proud.
Technical 60s
Let’s talk about fashion for women over 60. One of the biggest myths about older women is that we are no longer interested in looking stylish. There is a big misconception in our culture that women over 60 are invisible, frumpy, and uninterested in sensuality and beauty. Women over 60 are often more fashionable than we used to be when we were younger, because we have better self-confidence and a stronger sense of self – we know how to dress for who we are. One of the advantages of being women over 60 is that “we’ve seen it all”. Don’t feel like you have to succumb to the latest fashion trend. After all, most “trends” are designed with younger audiences in mind. You will look more stylish if you focus on technical dressing rather than going for the “total look” that you see in your favorite fashion magazine.
